Puri is a delightful town filled with temples and also blessed with a beautiful beach, The Jagannath Temple is one of the holiest temples in India and attracts throngs of Pilgrims. Puri is a very small town, but must have over 100 hotels to support the temple. It is reported that the temple employs 20,000 people. Non Hindus cannot enter the temple, but the scene outside the temple is interesting on its own. In addition to the main temple Puri has scores of smaller temples which also attract the pilgrims.
Puri is also a backpacker haven, with lots of nice inexpensive accommodation and great food. Many travellers stay here to regroup after the challenges of traveling in India.
