China ...Kunming is the principal city of Yunnan and has around 4 m inhabitants.  The airport is quite close to the city centre and was where I first realized that little English is spoken in China!  Immigration was simple;  I had obtained my Chinese visa in Colombo, Sri Lanka for Rs 3200 (around US$30) and it was  valid for 3 months.  The first impression was that I had arrived back in the West – everyone was wearing western clothes, in contrast to the traditional lungis of Burma, and smart clothes at that.
