Laundry
Before starting your trip the decisions you make about what to take will make laundry on the road easier. Items which are light weight, dark or dirt colored, and that will shake out the wrinkles will keep you looking tidy.
- Wrinkle resistant clothing such as clothes made from micro-fiber, rayon, cottom blends, and easy-care silk are perfect for travel.
- Always put dirty clothes in a plastic bag so that the rest of the clothes stay clean smelling
- If not possible to sink wash items have them laundered ( guest house or coin self-operated). In some countries such as Africa and Asia the guest houses will have laundry services for as little as a couple dollars for a bag of clothes.
- Less is more when using soap for sink washing (less suds requires less rinsing).
- Pack scented dryer sheets in your luggage to keep clothes smelling just laundered. I also pack insense which I can use to freshen up a room and it keeps my luggage smelling nice
- Be sure to have a laundry bag which includes a universal sink stopper and laundry line and washing powder.
- For emergency repairs take along a sewing kit.
- Wear polyster/cottom blend or silk under garments - avoid 100% cotton as it takes longer to dry. I take light weight cotton under garments as I like the breathability and they dry quickly.
- Avoid packing wet or damp clothes - mold and mildew grow rapidly in humid climates and wet clothes are heavy to carry. If unavoidable - pack damp items in plastic bags to separate from other clothing.
